Trade School Port of Spain is a volunteer-run community that offers classes to the public using barter instead of money. Our goal is to offer an accessible education resource that also builds trust & community connection in Port of Spain and by extension Trinidad and Tobago.
Trade School Port of Spain works like this:
Our current Trade School Port of Spain team members are Sasha Jattansingh and Kosi Thomas.
Operating under the Non-profit organisation 868Change, which is the same group that brought you TEDxPortofSpain, we are not only interested in bringing interesting ideas to Port of Spain, but also providing a platform for "ideas worth doing".

The Concept
Trade School is a non traditional learning community which runs on barter. In other words, Trade School is a self-organising learning space in which teachers offer classes, in exchange for barter items provided by students. No money allowed.Trade School Port of Spain works like this:
- People offer to teach a class about something they know.
- Teachers decide on a list of barter items they're interested in receiving. Barter items can be in the form of goods or services, both tangible and intangible. For example: jars, music tips, clothes, vegetables, or help with something like finding an apartment. Every class' barter items will be different, since it is set by the teacher.
- Students sign up for classes on our website, and, by signing up, they agree to bring 1 of the barter items requested by the instructor.
- On the day of class, the teachers & students meet in a space that is made available by Trade School Port of Spain. Students give their barter item to the teacher, and the class begins!
